Palmer Square Renovation, Chicago

completed 2007

Single Family Residence

Just under 1000 sq ft, the original one story brick home was compartmentalized into living and sleeping areas. The goal of the renovation was to visually expand the living space by removing one of the bedrooms and opening up the stair to create a combined living/dining space that is visually connected to the kitchen. The addition of a skylight in the center of the house, painting the walls white and opening up the floor plan minimized the need for artificial lighting. Original hollow core doors were repurposed as bookshelves. Bluestone pavers salvaged from a jobsite. Concrete pavers repurposed as stepping stones and planters.
